INFRAGRAVITY WAVES AT A TIDAL INLET

چکیده

The generation and propagation of infragravity waves at sandy coasts has received significant attention (e.g. Herbers et al., 1994). This is in contrast with tidal inlets where both observations modeling studies are scarce. Here we present novel over an ebb-tidal delta located Ameland, the Netherlands. objective to understand evolution free bound as they propagate from deeper shelf onto shoal into ebbchannel, establish their pathways examine potential sediment transport. latter important view anticipated large-scale nourishment this location protect coast future storm impacts.

Transoceanic infragravity waves impacting Antarctic ice shelves

[1] Long-period oceanic infragravity (IG) waves (ca. [250, 50] s period) are generated along continental coastlines by nonlinear wave interactions of storm-forced shoreward propagating swell. Seismic observations on the Ross Ice Shelf show that free IG waves generated along the Pacific coast of North America propagate transoceanically to Antarctica, where they induce a much higher amplitude she...

Observations of infragravity waves at the Monterey ocean bottom broadband station (MOBB)

[1] Infragravity waves can be observed at the 1000 m deep ocean bottom broadband seismic station MOBB on stormy as well as quiet days. When compared to the energy of the short-period ocean waves recorded at the local buoys, infragravity waves in the longer than 20 s period band are found to be mainly locally generated from shorter-period waves. Two types of modulation of the infragravity signal...

The spatial-temporal variability of air-sea momentum fluxes observed at a tidal inlet

Coastal waters are an aerodynamically unique environment that has been little explored from an air-sea interaction point of view. Consequently, most studies must assume that open ocean-derived parameterizations of the air-sea momentum flux are representative of the nearshore wind forcing. Observations made at the New River Inlet in North Carolina, during the Riverine and Estuarine Transport exp...

Tsunami and infragravity waves impacting Antarctic ice shelves

The responses of the Ross Ice Shelf (RIS) to the 16 September 2015 8.3 (Mw) Chilean earthquake tsunami (>75 s period) and to oceanic infragravity (IG) waves (50–300 s period) were recorded by a broadband seismic array deployed on the RIS from November 2014 to November 2016. Here we show that tsunami and IG-generated signals within the RIS propagate at gravity wave speeds ( 70 m/s) as water-ice ...

Coastal Research, Special Publn. 34, pp 449-458, 2001 Entrance closure has been identified by the local coastal communities as one of the more important management problems for the small barrier estuaries. The paper describes...
